CLIENT EXPERIENCE

Private equity firm bidding on an asset in unfamiliar basin

A PE’s management team is looking at an asset in Appalachia for the first time; other assets may be elsewhere.

We will educate the state of play for the potential asset’s pricing hub. Sometimes, non-op assets need historical correlation analyses to determine and understand correct exposures.

Our team provides an opinion on future price risk regarding future regional changes, such as infrastructure, supply-demand dynamics, and industry shifts.

As a result, the management team has a full understanding and third-party opinion of the value and possibilities of the assets under consideration.

CLIENT EXPERIENCE

Client asks about future risk for Houston Ship Channel (HSC)

We start with a look at the season strips over time (forward curve). We apply economic analysis to understand price pressures in the future.

We advise on whether we believe the forward curve is undervaluing or overvaluing future changes in supply demand and infrastructure.

We clearly state the most likely factors that would influence future pricing and advise whether there is more risk of higher or lower prices. Example: “New Permian 2.5 Bcf/d Permian pipe targeting the Katy/HSC area is likely not well priced into the HSC forward curve. Therefore, we are concerned that the Summer 2024 and Winter 2024-2025 strips have the potential to settle lower than the curve.”

As a result, the client can decide based on our recommendation whether to hedge, what percentage, and what tenor for HSC.
